SOCIAL AND PERSONAL
The Rev. Father Dore, formerly in charge of the Roman Catholic parishes of Otorohanga and Te Kuiti, but now of Tuakau, is revisiting the scenes of his former activities. • The engagement is announced of Joan Logie, twin daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. McNaughton, Waiuku, and Lawrence Alfred, fourth son of Mr H. Blackler, of Te Awamutu, and the late Mrs Blackler, of Waiuku. The engagement is announced of Helen Catherine, aldSr daughter of Mjr and Mrs F. Haddon, and Ain Frank, only son of Mr and Mrs F. D Danks (pioneer settlers of the Kic Kio district). Both families now reside at Mangawhau Road, Newmarket, Auckland. Apologies for unavoidable absence announced by the chairman at. the Paterangi jubilee celebrations on Friday included messages from the Hon. Win. Fraser, Minister of Education, Mr T. U. Wells, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, and Mr W. S. La Trobe (an old pupil), Director of Education. The very thorough arrangements made in connection with the Paterangi school diamond jubilee last Friday reflected distinct credit upon the executive committee especially and all the helpers they enlisted in general. Mr N. F. Oram, the present-day headmaster, proved a very capable executive secretary-organiser, and he came in for very hearty congratulations. The Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, when speaking at the Paterangi school diamond jubilee last Friday afternoon, voiced messages of congratulation and good wishes to the community from the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, and the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour, and added that Mr Armstrong had a very personal interest in Paterangi, for his wife was a former pupil of chat school. The announcement was heartily applauded, for the lady referred to was formerly Miss Alice Fox, daughter of a well-known district farmer three or four decades ago.
