The work in connection with the elimination of the railway level crossing on the Great South Road at Hopuhopu, between Ngaruawahia and Taupiri, which has been commenced, will entail the lowering of the track of the Main Trunk railway line, according to Mr F. S. Dyson, district engineer for the Public Works Department. A slight deviation of the railway has been made, and this will come inti use next week while the main line is being lowered. The alteration to the track will enable the engineers to keep the new road-traffic overhead bridge at a considerably reduced level above the present road.
