URBAN LANDS RATING
GOVERNMENT REBATE ON RATES WITHDRAWN. In future the Government will not pay the 121 per cent rebate in the case oi’ local body rates on urban lands, according to advice which has been, received in Auckland. The rebate in the past has amount jo to 2s 6d in (lie pound in the case of rates paid and was granted on urban lands that arc used for farming. Now all farm holders will have to pay the full amount of the local body ratings. It was stated on Saturday that, although all Auckland provincial local bodies have not yet received notice of the change, the Government’s decision has been anticipated for some time, since in the past Labour Party members have objected to t.lie payment ot the rebate out of the highways fund, from which it was paid last year. The effect ot the abolition ot the rebate will be that a further 121 per cent rating will fall upon the urban landholders, but local bodies will not be affected in that the landholders, instead of the Government, will make up the full amount of the rating.
