AS REPORTED IN THE WAIPA POST ON NOVEMBER 3rd, 1911. Mr Wim. Taylor, the Greenhill, breeder, at the Palmerston North Show, ha s gained first honours for 3-year-old Shorthorn bull and second for 2-year-old. Mr W. Forbes, announced as independent opposition for Taumarunui electorate, has withdrawn from that campaign and crossed the border into the Taranaki electorate where he will contest the seat as an indepenaent oppositionist. The present number of subscribers at Te Awamutu telephone exchange has been increased by a systematic canvas of the town. The number now totals 37. Another 13 are needed to secure the opening of the exchange in the evenings. Extensions, including a verandah, are now nearing completion at the local railway station. A Government grant of £lOO has been made available for the Punui Domain Board, the purpose of the grant is to assist the Board in the provision of a town and pumping plant for water supply. The school committee has plans, prepared by Mr W. H. Mandeno, for a scheme of levelling the playgrounds at the back of the school. The Kihikihi school committee has received the necessary authority to proceed with the fencing of the school grounds. Tautari settlers are encouraged to believe that the district will be linked * or telephone communication soon. A meeting of Maori owners was held at Kihikihi last Wednesday to consider the sale of certain blocks of land in Tautari district. The properties of Mr J. B. Hutchinson senr., Chas Elmsley and F. Cooper, in the Kihikihi district, have recently changed hands to buyers from Auckland and Taranaki. Mangapiko beat Te Awamutu at cricket on Wednesday by an innings.
