ORCHESTRAS IN SCHOOLS
"The Book of the School Orchestra," by L. G. Newton and T. Campbell Young, Oxford University Press, is a manual of instruction for conductors and performers in small orchestras. But it will serve more purposes than that for which it Is primarily intended. Information is imparted on all types of instruments, their care and use. The hints throughout are marvels of brevity and wit. The authors think that if the performance of music may be dying in the home it might be reborn in the schools, and develop by the power of its increasing momentum. The volume, deserving of high praise, is for the school library, students of the orchestra and budding masters of the baton. . •
