BUSINESS!
THEORIES AND FACTS. “That’s a great theory,” said the small shopkeeper: “about advertising to increase turnover and reduce overhead. Excellent for the man in a big way and with a big population, but just a theory for the likes of me.” Right! If it pays the big business to spend a given percentage of turnover to merchandise its goods why Will it not pay a small business to spend a similar percentage? The big
fellow has correspondingly big “overhead” to meet—he has all the disadvantages in a big way that the little fellow has in a small way. But the little fellow who neglects to advertise gets a bigger percentage of “overhead” and simply goes down to competition. Look at it this way. In and about Te Awamutu there is a population of about 6000 persons. Reckon five people occupying a house and there are 1200 houses.
Every household requires something. People must eat to live. Reckon four people eat a loaf of bread a day, and it requires 150' 1 loaves to supply the population. They consume 10,500 loaves a week.
They all need groperiea; thjy all require clothing; furniture is Wonted. Figure out the Requirements of life. Work out what your business would sell to 6000 people every year. What could your business do, and what does it do? Wbrk it out, and then go out td capture the business.
