A declaration of the policy to be adopted by the Government during the recess toward the agricultural and pastoral workers of the Dominion was requested in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mr T. D. Burnett (Opposition Temuka), in giving notice of a question to the Prime Minister, Mr Sava_ge. Attention was drawn by Mr Burnett to the pronounced attractiveness of industrial conditions in towns and cities and on public works and to the inability of the primary industries to pay more than present standard wages. As a result, he said, there was an imminent danger of a wholesale exodus of both occupiers and workers from the land to the cities, which would lead to an unwholesome and wholesale mechanisation of the agricultural industry.
