CIVIC PRIDE
Recognising the absence of civic pride in Sydney, powerful city interests are beginning to make official moves towards stimulation of public interest in Civic affairs.
The President of the Citizens’ Reform Association (Mr S. S. Cohen) said that he intended to recommend the association to consider including in the platform a specific clause dealing with civic pride.
“Personally I am very keen that pride in the city should be cultivated,” said Mr Cohen “because there is no doubt that it scarcely exists at the moment.”
The present platform of the association supports beautification of the city and systematic ,own planning, but there is no mention specifically of civic pride.
It is anticipated that the establish ment of the new Town Planning Committee of the City Council will provide a good focal point from which to launch an aggressive campaign and so impress upon the citizens the need, characteristic of most other cities, of working for its beautification and scientific development.
