A SCENIC ROAD

KAKEPUKU OR PIRONGIA? “I think if ever a scheme of that sort is proceeded with it should not be to Kakepuku but to Pirongia, for there people would have a magnificent view—ever so much better than from the top of Kakepuku. One would get a remarkably hue panoramic view, and perhaps in the future the Waipa, Kawhia and Raglan counties could combine in advocating and pressing such a scheme,” said Cr D. B. Livingstone at to-day’s meeting of the. Waipa County Council when the chairman reported having attended a conference called by the Mayor of Te Awamutu in support of his advocacy for a scenic road to the top of Kakepuku. The chairman said he had urged a preference for Pirongia, but it seemed there was a certain amount of commercial consideration in the Mayor’s project, and that if Pirongia were chosen people from Hamilton would go direct and not via Te Awamutu.

After some further discussion, Cr Macky remarked that there was little likelihood of either project being proceeded with for some time to come, as th era were more useful avenues for expending any available money.
