SOCIAL AND PERSONAL
Mi- J. G. Weightman, an old resident of Te Awamutu, now of Feilding, Was a visitor to Te Awamutu on Saturday, while returning home from Whangarei, where he judged at the annual spring flower show, and Auckland, where he attended the National Daffodil Show.
Word received by Mrs J. A. Maxwell, of Teasdale Street, last week indicates that Mr Maxwell, who has been on an extended holiday jaunt to Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the past six or seven months, expects to reach home again about the end of October. He reports a most interesting and pleasant trip.
Word has been received in Putaruru (says the Press) that Constable T. J. Cotter has been appointed resident constable in Putaruru. Constable Cotter has been second constable to Constable J. F. Murphy, who retired from the force at the beginning of this month on three months’ sick leave. The news of the appointment of Constable Cotter will be welcome to the people in the district. During his 12 years in Putaruru he has shown himself a zealous and tactful officer ot a kind most suitable foi an important country station. In view of police reorganisation in country districts it is possible a second constable will not be appointed. Constables at the Rotorua station are to be largely augmented..
