RABBIT SKIN SALE. Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., Dunedin, report as follows: Quantities were slightly smaller at Tuesday’s sale, and the quality of the offerings v-as definitely poorer. There was a good demand again for all winter grades at slightly lower prices, which can really be accounted for by the difference in quality. On an average the market was 3d to 6d lower.

OTOROHANGA STOCK SALE.

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report on their fortnightly Otorohanga sale, held on Wednesday:—Sheep: Compe tition unparalleled in briskness was forthcoming for the specially advertised entry of 1200 ewes and wether hoggets. Many buyers were present from near and far and a phenominally good sale took place. The best ewe hoggets realised £2 Os 3d, a pen being purchased by Mesdames Heppenstab and Marwood at thid price from Mr J. S. Disher. Mr C. Merrin, Otorohanga was paid £1 15s Id each for a pen oi 84 medium ewe hoggets by Mr A. J. Jones, Te Kuiti; Mr C. Irvine sold t. pen of 60 good store ewe hoggets tc Mr H. R. Wright, of Te Kuiti, at 35s fd; Messrs Lissington Bros, Kio Kio, obtained 36s 2d per head for t pen of 80 ewe hoggets, the buyer being Mr F. G. Stokes. This man alsc purchased a draft of 115 of Mr Irv ine’s medium store wether hoggets at 27s Id. Mr J. C. Petersen, Maihiihi, obtained 27s for his entry of 60 wethe> hoggets. These remarkably keen prices ruled consistently throughout the sale, and bidding was maintained with everything selling. A line of 270 smaller store wether hoggets offered on account of Mr C. Merrin realised 24s 9d each, the buyers being Mr J G. Speedy, Te Anga, and Mr C. S Alexander, Pokuru; Mr W. Kohi sold a line of 150 plain wether hoggets at 23s Id. Cattle: Heavy beef was lack ing and plainer quality fat cows were entered in only medium supply. For these and stores and boners competition was steady and business was transacted on a level with last week’s Frankton prices. Dairy cows and heifers, the standard of quality of which was only fair, sold quite well in comparison with late recordings. Wc quote: Medium fat Jersey cows £3 16s to £5 10s, light unfinished butchers’ cattle £3 5s to £3 15s, heavy store cows £2 10s to £3 2s 6d, heavy boners 36s to £2 Bs, very plain yearling Jersey heifers £2 17s to £3 10s, good dairy cows and heifers £5 15s to £8 medium, to inferior £4 to £5 10s. Pigs: A good sized entry consisting mainly of stores and weaners and a scattering only of light baconer and porker pigs came forward, all classes were well sought and a total clearance was effected without fluctuations from former levels. Heavy porkers £2 2s 6d to £2 12s, light do 37s 6d to £2. buttermilk pigs 34s to 365, good stores 25s to 32s 6d, slips 22s to 24s 6d, best weaners 15s to 20s. others to 14s. KAUROA STOCK SALE. Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having’ sold at the Kauroa sale on Wednesday, where a good yarding comprising mostly dairy cattle came forward. Competition was keen throughout and the whole yarding changed hands at prices on a. par with late market rates, dairy cattle being slightly in advance of late rates. No good fat cattle were yarded. Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having held their usual fortnightly sale at Matamata on Wednesday, when there was a small yarding of sheep, comprising fat ewes, hoggets and a few wethers, all of which sold at prices on a par with those ruling at other centres. There was a large yarding of fat and boner cows and a fair yarding of dairy cows, springing heifers and yearlings. The advertised line of rising 2-year P.A. and Hereford steers came forward in fair order and condition but were showing the effects of the trip from the East Coast. A good sale resulted and all sheep and cattle yarded, barring a few dairies, were sold under the hammer. FRANKTON STOCK SALE 1 New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report as follows on their Frankton Stock Sale held at Frankton on Tuesday. Cattle: Although values for ox beef perhaps were a shade easier a strong demand existed for cows and heifer beef. Our entry was a medium one and comprised, for the greater part, average conditioned cows. A few good to heavy cattle however were included. Prices were fully maintained at the former levels and. all entered sold. A pen of medium yearling heifers was accorded bright bidding. We sold a consignment of medium quality S.H. cows on account of Messrs Littlewood’s Es-

tate, Taupiri, up to £8 15s; while Mr A. H. Wearing, Taupiri was the vendor of a number of average weight S.H. Jersey cross cows which realised up to £7 10s; the best of a small entry Mrs E. J. Goodwin, Te Awamutu, brought up to £9 Is; We quote:—Heavy quality S.H. beef cows £8 12s 6d to £9 Is; good quality heavy S.H. Jersey cross fat cows £6 10s to £8 ss; medium to lighter Jersey cows £4 15s to £6; unfinished and light conditioned £3 5s to £4 10s; heavy store quality cows £2 10s to £3; heavy boners £1 15s to £2 7s 6d; medium grown yearling Jersey heifers £4 10s; small vealers 15s. Sheep: The entry was a fair one and good to heavy quality fat ewes and wethers predominated. The bidding throughout was again lively and a keen sale resulted. Prices for all classes of fat sheep tended to appreciate if anything and all entered sold readily. A few small lots of store hoggets elicited very strong competition and business was transacted at prices favourable to vendors. Mr T. M. Hall, of Ohaupo Road sold a draft of 40 fat Wethers at £2 each; Mr C. J. Follett of Te Pahu, obtained 39s 9d per head for a small entry of wethers. Heavy fat ewes on account of Mr C. H. Slater, Taupiri, and Mr D. Spanton, Taupiri, realised up to £1 15s 9d per head; heavy fat wethers £1 15s to £2; good quality fat wethers £1 11s to £1 14s; lighter £1 5s to £1 10s; heavy prime ewes £1 13s to £1 15s 9d; medium do. £1 6s to £1 12s 6d; light to £1 4s 6d; heavy fat hoggets £1 6s to £1 9s; few good conditioned store hoggets £1 15s 6d; pen of store wether hoggets £1 7s 6d. Pigs: A steady sale took place for porkers and baconers at a slightly reduced range of values but the demand was firm. Slips and weaners were more keenly sought than large store pigs and these fully realised the previous week’s rates although the latter eased a fraction.
