Mrs H. Ranson, of Auckland, is the guest ot Mr and Mrs S. A. Empson, Puniu Road, Te Awamutu. Mr J. B. Muir departed last night to attend the annual conference ot the N.Z. Dental Association, which takes place in Wellington this week. At the annual meeting of the Kihikihi League of Mothers last week, Mrs J. Donaldson, the president, occupied the chair. The meeting was held at Mrs J, J. Anderson's residence.

Misses O. Lloyd, E. Hunter and V. Holt, Te Awamutu members ot the Ruapehu Ski Club, leave this evening to take part in the Dominion ski championship tournament, near Chateau Tongariro.

Mr H. A. Munn, who has been postmaster at Te Kuiti for the last three and a half years, has received notice of his promotion to postmaster at Whangarei, The date of his departure has not yet been announced.

The engagement is announced of Gladys Ashley Willis, eldest daughter of Mr A. R. Willis and the late Mrs Edith Willjs, Kio Kio, to David Arnold Tainton, youngest son ot Mr and Hrs H. Tainton, Grey Lynn. Auckland, late of Staffordshire, England.

The engagement is announced of Nancy Alice, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs J. M. Russell, .Puniu Road, Te Awamutu (late of Helensville), to Eric Henry, second son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Meiville, Puniu Road, Te Awamutu.

Mrs A. L. Masters and her two children, of. Kaitaia, are spending a few days with Mr and Mrs Stan. Corden, Alexandra Street. They came down to be present at the wedding of the younger sister of Mrs Masters and Mr Corden, which took place at Pukeroro last Friday afternoon.

Mr G. C. Mitchell, the New Zealand missionary who is reported to have been killed by natives in Abyssinia, was a brother of the Rev. J. L. Mitchell, who was Methodist minister at Te Kuiti up to nine months ago, when he left to fill a similar position at Rotorua.

Mr A. H. Flay, B.Sc., M.Ag.Sc., research officer of the University staff of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, near Christchurch, who has been attending the agricultural research conference at Palmerston North, is spending a few days with his parents. Mr and Mrs J. R. Flay, Te Rahu. Te Awamutu, before returning south to resume his duties.

Mr and Mrs G. M. Blair, who are leaving for Wellington after a number of years’ residence in Te Awamutu, were accorded a surprise party last Thursday evening, when several dozen friends assembled at the home to bid them farewell. Mr R. Maher, on behalf of the company, asked them to accept a beautiful travelling rug as a reminder of very pleasant associations. Mr Blair suitably responded.

Last Saturday the staffs of the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co.’s dried-milk factory and butter factory at Te Awamutu assembled to bid farewell to Mr John Roderick, who after ten years on the staff has resigned to take up a farming proposition in the Te Puke district. Mr A. H. Roberts, the manager, in asking Mr Roderick to accept a fireside chair and cushion, referred to Mr Roderick’s many estimable qualities and his personal popularity, conscientiousness and ability. All joined in wishing him success in his new venture. Mr Roderick suitably acknowledged the gifts and the good wishes.
