A POPUL AR DANCE
ATHLETIC BASKETBALL CLUE’S EFFORT. There was a very jolly crowd at the Parish Hall last Thursday evening for the dance promoted by the Athletic Basketball Club to assist towards the expenses of the club’s representatives competing at the forthcoming Rotorua tournament. All arrangements for the pleasure of patrons had been made, and delightful dance music was contributed. Messrs D. Young, H. Renton and M. Barnett acted as M’s.C. A spot log cabin competition was won by Miss L. Harding and Mr B. Bird, while a Monte Carlo competition was won by Mr and Mrs C. Sherley. Among those present were his Worship the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Miss Spinley), Mesdames Sherley, Sager, Gregory, Wilson, Moon, Walker, J. Sager, jun., and Ball; Misses E. Spiers, A. Maclean. J. Sherley, P. Sherley, L. Gregory, Wilson, Walker, H. Johnson, Maxwell, G. Law, J. Heron, B. Fox, T. Patterson, M. Pollard, G. Potts, N. Miller, D. Ploxham, M. Bloxham, J. Ryan, L. Harding, N. Old, M. Cruickshank, B. Pratt, W. Gilbert, P. Sifleet, V. Duff, L. Cruickshank, Campbell, D. MacDonald, L. Potts and S. Jowsey. Several competitions were decided, as follows: Miss M. Rickit'c cake, won by Miss N. Laskey; Rickit and Sons’ teddy beat, J. Horan; Mrs Sager's tilet set, E. Cowley; and Mrs Sherley’s footstool, K. Quinlan. A very appetising supper was served. During the evening the Mayor, who has always taken a keen interest in the club, thanked all present for assisting to make the evening such a success socially and financially. He ac corded the donors of prizes for competition special thanks, and said the results of the enterprise were very gratifying.
