KAWHIA NOTES

HOSPITAL ANNUAL BALL. A BRILLIANT EVENT. A gay scene was presented in the Kawhia . Hall on Thursday night, when the county held Its annual hospital ball. The Young People’s Club tastefully decorated the hall with nikau palms, multicolour streamers and balloons. O'Rourke's Orchestra, from Te Kuiti, rendered bright and popular music, and extras were played by Mrs Chase, Miss Davies and Rev. Fussell. A delightful supper was provided by the ladies of the district. The guests were received by the hostesses, Mesdames Turner, Chase and Ward, and much credit is due to the joint secretaries,, Mrs Martin Oldbury and Rev. Fussell, for their hard work in making the function such a success. The proceeds amounted to about £27. A few of the frocks were:— Mrs Martin Oldbury, black tulip georgette; Mrs Turner (Hauturu), floral velvet; Mrs Chase (Te Rau-a-moa), black beaded georgette; Mrs H. Brandon (Hauturu), floral georgette; Mrs J. Harries (Waitomo), floral georgette; Mrs Frean, floral chiffon; Mrs Halcro (Kinohaku), pink shot taffeta; Mrs Ralne, black shot net; Mrs J. N. Culley, Marina blue velvet; Matron Reidy, black overlace; Nurse Schultz, cornflower blue georgette; Nurse Mansfield, shell pink taffeta; Nurse Goldsbro (Wanganui), black crepe satin and lace. Others present included: Mesdames Cuff, Carron, H. Robertson, N. Beatson, Thomas, Hone, Thorne, R. T. Davies, C. Stewart, McKibbin, Clarklin, Nesbit, Watts, R. Ward, Beach, T. Newton, N.
