ITEMS OF INTEREST. (Resident Representative.) Extremely heavy frosts, followed by cold but bright days, with clear skies, have characterised the weather conditions of the past week-end. Two fine Rugby contests were wit nessed at Otorohanga on Saturday afternoon. In the presence of a good gallery of spectators. Otorohanga first took the field against Kio Kio, under the direction of Mr B. Carr, the former winning a meritorious game by 17 to 6. United and Otewa packs played under the control of Mr T. McCready, United registering victory with the scores standing at 9—6. Word was received to-day of the death at Auckland of Gladys, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Bagust, formerly of Otorohanga, aged 27 years. Deceased had been in failing health for the past two years. Miss Bagust, together with her mother (Madame Hannah) came to Otorohanga sonje two years ago, and open ed the Blue Salon, where they suc ; cessfully conducted a ladies’ hairdressing business, until failing health caused their i-etirement some months ago.

Hockey players and enthusiastic followers of the game mustered in force at Otorohanga on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of the con tests between the Taumarunui and local girls’ and men’s club representatives. After an exciting game the Taumarunui and Otorohanga girls registered a drawn game, when the scores were two all. Mr Keheley refereed. In the men’s matcli the visit ors defeated Otorohanga after a very even contest by three to two. Mi Smith, of Taumarunui, was the referee.

The president of the King Country Hockey Association, Mr W. Fan thorpe, is moving in the direction of tne formation of hockey teams in the various towns and districts to co operate with the Otorohanga Club, which has several strong teams ol both sexes. A special meeting was held at Te Kuiti Hall to further the project, and the ladies present were willing to provide a ladies’ team, besides the Maori ladies’ team at present playing in the Te Awamutu competitions. There are nine men’s teams and seven ladies' teams playing in the third year of competitions at Taumarunui. Otorohanga is at present playing outside the King Country boundary in the Te Awamutu competitions. It is the opinion of the president, and others, that Te Kuiti should form an association with Otorohanga, and run their competitions in concert.
