PLUNKET SOCIETY
TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. The ordinary monthly meeting of the local committee was held on Monday afternoon, With the president, Mbs J. C. Self, in the chair. Also pre-, sent were Mjesdames Downes, Goodall, McAlister, O’Byien, West (treasurer), and Swarbrick (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Locke, Oliphant and Whitelaw. The nurse’s report for the month of July showed 30 new cases. Visits to homes, 21; visits to rooms, adults 194, babies 184, older children 39; total visits 438; telephone calls 3g. The attention of the meeting was drawn to the report that the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association was considering the holding of a carnival in March next. This caused considerable concern, as for years past it has been the custom for the Plunket committee to hold their sole money-liaising effort in this month. As the returns from this effort constitute the bulk of the branch income for the year, a very serious position would arise as the result of another major effort being held about the same time; and the secretary was instructed to lay the position before the executive of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Box donations for the month amounted to £1 14s 3d.
