VALEDICTORY
MR AND MRS J. GLENIE. After farming near Otorohanga for many years past, Mr J. Glenie has disposed of his fine property, and proposes to retire in Auckland. Settlers of the district and residents of Otorohanga tendered Mr and Mrs Glenie a farewell function at the homestead on Wednesday evening, and presented them with a very beautiful Westminster chiming clock and a work basket, as mementoes of their long sojourn in the district. Mr W. B. McAdam, of Otorohanga, acted as master of ceremonies, and Mr F. O. R. Phillips spoke in glowing terms of the pioneering qualifications and neighbourly worth of Mr and Mrs Glenie and their family. Mr H. G. Corbett also spoke highly of the sterling qualities of the guests. A pleasant evening was spent with games, competitions, cards, and vocal and instrumental numbers too numerous to particularise. A POPULAR TEACHER. Miss Ferri, a popular school teacher, for some time in charge of Te Raumauku school (near Otorohanga), was publicly farewelled at the school on Saturday evening last, when there was a full attendance of settlers of the district. Mr W. I. Bowyer, chairman of the Otorohanga School Committee and a member of the Auckland Board of Education, presided. Miss Ferri was presented with a valuable gold-mounted fountain pen on behalf of the parents, and with a pair of crystal vases on behalf of the school children. Various speakers eulogised the good qualities of the guest of the evening. Miss Ferri has been transferred to Miranda school (Hauraki Gulf), and Te Raumauku school will be closed to consolidate with Otorohanga District High School.
