TE AWAMUTU STOCK SALE. . New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Company, Limited, Hamilton, report as follows on their tri-weekly Te Awamutu stock sale held on Thursday:—Fat and store cattle: This section was as usual filled to capacity. Medium class fat Jersey cows and store conditioned cows accounted for most of the entry, but several pens of ox beef and a good scattering of heavy quality cows were included. The sale for the heavier cattle was somewhat dragging and difficulty was experienced in selling to the satisfaction of vendors. Light fat store and boner cows were sought after at the prices current at Frankton from a good bench ’of exporters’ buyers. A good clearance was affected. Dairy cattle: Among a heavy entry of both cows and heifers were Messrs H. and S. Rhodes’ annual draft of good conditioned well-grown dairy heifers, which were also mostly due early. These attracted the attention of the many buyers, principally, but the keen enquiry for dairy cattle was general, and all shared in consistently strong competition. Messrs Rhodes’ heifers averaged £6, the best realising £B. We quote: Best quality dairy heifers £6 15s to £B, medium sorts £6 to £6 10s, plainer £5 5s to £6, late and small up to £5, good types of dairy cows £5 to £6, others to £4 15s. Sheep: All sheep entered sold well. Fat lambs and breeding ewes comprised about threefourths of the entry, the balance being fat ewes and wethers and store lambs. Scheduled rates were fully equalled for fat lambs, while local butchers were keen after grown sheep, right up to Frankton rates. Breeding ewes sold satisfactorily, while lambs of store quality drew very brisk bidding. A total clearance was affected.
