NEW SCENIC ROUTE
TUAKAU TO AWAKINO
The officials of the Automobile Association (Auckland), have recently inspected the proposed new scenic route from Tuakau, on the Waikato River, to Awakino, on the river of that name. They have, for some period been interested in the completion of an all-weather motoring route along the West Coast, traversing Raglan, Kawhia, Te Anga, Marakopa, and Awamarino, to Awakino. As a result of the recent tour of the Associations representatives, it is more than likely that the proposed route will be made attractive to motorists in the near future. Road improvements in recent years between Hamilton and Raglan, have attracted motorists in increasing numbers to the western seaboard at Raglan and Kawhia, —via Te Mata and the Bridal Veil Falls, to Kawhia. Very good motoring roads encircle the Kawhia Harbour, at present while fair roads, in summer-time, lead from the harbour right down to Awakino, where they connect with the Auckland-Wellington main highway. On the Southern end of this tour there are only six miles of unmetalled road, while there are a few streams that would require bridging to permit or all-the-year round traffic. The touring officials of the Association were keenly enthusiastic regarding the scenic grandeur of many points along the extensive route. They anticipate that provisi<m will be made on the estimates for prevailing the clay roads and for bridging the streams. At present, it is possible to motor along the entire route.
