PAY DURING ILLNESS
CONCESSION TO UNEMPLOYED. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, announced on Saturday another concession to the unemployed. At the present time, he said, a worker on relief or sustenance who became ill ceased to be a charge upon the Unemployment Fund after one week of his illness, and he then became a charge upon the local hospital board. Representations had been made to him of cases of extreme hardship where a man was ill for more than a week.
Until more adequate provision could be made for such cases by hospital boards, or something donq by way of invalid pensions, the en.pl'u ment division of the Labour Department would carry the men for three weeks of their illness.
