NO DRIVING LICENSE

INTOXICATION CHARGE. Arrested on Monday afternoon, Frederick John Reynolds, aged 31, appeared before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Auckland Police Court yesterday morning, when he pleaded guilty to a charge of being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car in Queen Street. According to Sub-Inspector Fox, a rental car driven by Reynolds ran into the rear of another car in Queen Street, near Vulcan Lane, about 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Reynolds then drove his car into Vulcan Lane, where he was arrested. Twenty minutes after his arrest Reynolds was examined by a doctor, who certified that, although not drunk in the ordinary sense, he was under the influence of alcohol and unfit to have charge of a motor car. Reynolds had not been in trouble before. Mr Noble, in explanation, said Reynolds came from Te Awamutu on Saturday. On Monday he had a small quantity of liquor. “He says the man in the car ahead of him gave no signal, and that the collision which occurred was an unfortunate accident, and not due to the liquor he had taken,” added counsel. "He is a hardworking young man who has a position in Te Awamutu, and he really does not need a motor driver's license.”

Reynolds was fined £lO and his license was cancelled, the magistrate ordering that no other should Ijg issued for 12 months.
