OVERCROWDED HOUSES
RESULTS OF SCOTS SURVEY. A statement of the progress of Scottish local authorities in carrying out surveys of overcrowding in their areas was issued on 18th March by the Secretary of State for Scotland. In all, 827,610 houses have been surveyed 697,581 in burghs and 130,029 in counties; and of these 25 per cent (174,641 houses) in burghs, and 17.2 per cent (22,343 houses) in counties were found to eb over-crowd-ed. In Scotland as a whole, so far as the surveys have been completed, 23.8 per cent of the houses are over-crowd-ed.
The numbers of new houses which local authorities show to be required, after making allowance for full use of existing houses, are 109,488 in burghs and 15,514 in counties—a total of 125,002.
