DEAD SHARK BITES
REFLEX ACTION OF NERVES A dead shark has severely bitten a young man in Durban, Natal. The shark had been landed by a local fisherman and the young man, a visitor, was anxious to take a photograph of it with its mouth open. So he tried to prop the jaws apart with a stick. The stick slipped and the shark’s jaws snapped sh'ut on the man’s hand, ripping the palm open. The wound was so serious that the man had to be rushed to hospital. The vicious closing of the dead shark’s jaw is attributed to a reflex action of its nerves.
