THE EARLY BIRD.
A provincial clergyman was in the habit of paying frequent visits to London, and aspired to membership of a club. In due course he was elected to a club noted for its late hours and the general air of jollity of its members.
The new member, blissfully unaware of its reputation, paid a visit ‘ to London and stayed at the club. After his long journey from the north he retired to bed very early and woke equally early. He dressed and went downstairs to look for breakfast before 8 a.m., and w T as surprised to discover that the only occupant of the dining-room was a weary-looking waiter.
As the clergyman sat down the waiter approached him and apologet- f ically said: “I’m sorry, sir, but we’re not allowed to serve suppers after 7 a.m.”
