WIFE FOR KING
PROVISION IN CIVIL LIST. EARLIER INSTANCE RECALLED. London, March 19. In view of the interest and speculation excited by the King’s reference to the possibility of his marriage, it is worth while to recall that his consort has already, been provided for once. When King George’s civil list was voted, arrangements were made for the payment of an income to the Princess of Wales and that it should be Continued in the event of her becoming a widow. The Prince was only about 17 then and it was reasonable to provide for a contingency which seemed more probable at that time than it does to-day. Only this week the News’ correspondent was confidently assured that the King will be married before his coronation, and that the lady will be a Russian princess. More plausible guesses have been made.
