WAIKATO MARKET REPORT The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— Beef: There has been quite an improvement in the price of both steer and cow beef since our last report, prime ox making 30/- to 32/-, and prime cow up to 25/-. Fat Sheep: The market shows a tendency to harden both for ewe and wether mutton, sufficient coming forward to meet local demands.

Store Sheep: There is a good enquiry for all classes, ewes, in lamb, wethers and hoggets finding ready sale in both yards and paddocks. Store Cattle: A good demand exists for store steers from 18-months to 3i-years-old with few offering, also a fair demand for forward grown steers, yearling and 2-year-old heifers not being much enquired for. Dairy Cattle: There is quite a good enquiry for well-grown in-calf heifers, also good herds of dairy cows, Jersey and Jersey-cross being the most sought after. Pigs: The yardings are small with prices firm for both porkers and baconers, stores Deing about the same as last report.

Horses: Good heavy horseg and useful farm sorts are finding ready sale; light horses dull. We quote:— Bullocks, prime heavy £ll 10/- to £l2, medium £lO to £lO 10/-; cows, prime £7 10/- to £8 10/-, medium £5 10/- to £6 10/-, unfinished £3 10/- to £4, stores £2 10/- to £3; steers, Siyear forward £6 10/- to £7 15/-, Siyear stores £6 5/- to £6 15/-, 2i-year good £3 15/- to £4 10/-, others £2 10/- to £2 15/-, 18-months good £3 5/- to £3 10/-, do. medium £1 15/- to £2, good steer calves £2 10/- to £2 15/-, good Jersey heifer calves 35/to £3; wethers, prime heavy £2 to £2 2/-, prime medium 38/- to 39/-; store wethers, 4-tooth 32/- to 33/6, 2-tooth 30/- to 31/-; shorn ewes, 3-years 30/to 32/-, sound mouth 27/- to 28/6; lambs, fat 27/- to 30-; ewes, 2-tooth 32/- to 34/-; pigs, prime baconers £3 10/- to £3 18/-, medium £3 3/- to £3 5/-, porkers £2 15/- to £3, slips 25/- to 27/6, weaners 12/- to 17/6; horses, draughts £SO to £6O, medium £35 to £3B, spring cart sorts £22 to £3O, harness horses £8 to £lO, hacks £8 to £ll.
