FIFTY KINDS OF “IDEAL MAN.”

WIVES DIFFER ON WHAT HE SHOULD BE Does the ideal husband exist ? He does not, or, at all events, cannot be defined, in the opinion of the Rev. Grant L. Jorlan, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Dowagiac, Michigan, who conducted an experiment to find out what the average wife means by an “ideal” man.

The pastor asked 50 women in his congregation to send in them definitions of an “ideal husband,” and on examining the replies he discovered that he had 50 different definitions, which led him to the conclusion that women themselves do not know what the term means. One woman wrote: “My ideal man would come home and say: ‘Never mind about dinner, dear; we will go out somewhere and eat, and then go to a good show.’ ” Another defined the ideal husband as follows: —“The ideal man comes home after a hard day’s work, shuts out every worry and heartache as he closes the front door, says ‘Hullo, everybody!’ to the wife and children, plays adviser and counsellor to each, and finally thanks God for a day well spent.” “The ideal man,” said another, “would rise early, light the fire, empty the 'ashes, put the coffee on, and then call his wife. He would lace her shoes and then bake the cakes.” “A man who lives his religion every day in the year, and is not merely a Sunday Christian,” was another definition.

One woman replied that she has had, four husbands, anl has never known a marriel man “who lives for his wife.” That woud be an ideal husband, she said.
