SYDNEY IN 1930
PROPOSED WORLD EXHIBITION OPENING OF A BRIDGE Representatives of various institutions held a meeting at the Chamber of Comerce rooms, Sydney, to consider the question of inaugurating a world exhibition in Sydney in 1930, to coincide with the opening of the harbour bridge.
It was pointed out that in 1930 the British aerial route between England and Australia and important buildings at Canberra would be opened.
Allied with the exhibition would be the holding of the International Radio Congress/ steps for which have already been taken for that year, whilst the holding of an international sports carnival could also be arranged. .. Mr G. A. Taylor, who called the meeting, stated that he had made the' suggestion in Europe in 1922, and that a leter which had recently been sent to the principal engineering firms in Australia had won unanimous approval of the proposition. All present at the recent meeting were in favour of the scheme, and will submit it to their 1 various institutions for consideration. Meetings are also being held in the other States, ,so that as early as pdssible a scheme may be placed before the Federal Government.
