BOWLING

The South Auckland Bowling Association’s 1925 tournament passed off very satisfactorily considering the bad weather conditions. The mat rule was strictly enforced, much to the hardship of several bowlers who had simply “overstepped the mark.” Several penalties were imposed after the second reprimand, and as each pleaded guilty to an innocent offence the umpire had no option but to incinerate the bowls of the offender. The leads and seconds were asked to retire to the bank after playing their bowls, but the heads were too magnetic and offered more attraction than simply sitting on the bank. Still, on the whole, no interference was manifested and no harm resulted. The Druids are now the holders of the Willis Bros.’s trophy for night play, for the second time. Good luck to the 1 ancient bards.

Next Wednesday an inter-team match will be played—Ruakaka and Riverside will play against Herriesville and Hightown. Last time the former scored a meritorious victory. No doubt the next encounter, will be keenly fought.
