REGIMENTAL BAND
VISIT TO TE AROHA GREATLY APPRECIATED Large attendances enjoyed very much the programmes provided by the above band on Sunday last, both at the afternoon performance in the Domain and the evening concert at the Theatre. '■* His Worship the Mayor (Mr R. Coulter), before the evening performance in Mie Theatre, explained that the funds raised by the two performances would be divided between the Waikato Regimental Band and our local Ye Aroha Band. He also thanked the conductor his capable instrumentalists for travelling such a long distance to give Te Aroha the opportunity of hearing fresh performers. Lieut. Gladstone Hill, the conductor of the Waikato Band, responded ,on behalf of himself and his men. In country districts we suffer musically from lack of the opportunity of hearing any great variety of music other than what we can make ourselves, and visiting musicians ' are always welcome. The visiting band itself reflects great credit on its conductor and on the individual members, and we wish it every success. Its playing was characterised by precision and dash, and from start to finish they were well worth listening to. Of the assisting artists at the evenirig concert, Bandsman W. H. Dairs revealed a good natural voice in “Out On The Deep” apd “The Admiral’s Broom.” Mr E. H. Quell sang “Out of the Deep” and “Good Morning Brother Sunshine.” Miss Ivy Musker pleased the audience with her clear pronunciation in “Ave Maria” and “My Task.” Mr Horace Cater’s saxophone solos were very much enjoyed. Miss Dorothea Vautier’s two recitations were acceptable, though her voice did not carry too well in the theatre. A vocal quintette, “The Sleepy Hollow Time,” was re-deman-ded by the audience. 1 , , The Band items, all of which were good, included “The Lost Chord” (soloist, Mr T.. Lilley), “The Silver Trumpets,” “Under the Allied Banners,” “Fierce Raged the Tempest,” and “The Death of Nelson” (soloist, Mr G. Parkhouse).
