ANZAC DAY

(To the Editor.) Sir, —As a ratepayer that has some troubles to be redressed I ask your permission to make a protest^. through your columns at the time wasted in the local Borough Council by one or two of the local councillors. I can’t see what good can come ot' such tactics as are being adopted by Gr. Bruce. First lie attacked the Council about that Taumarunui land sale business, then he took a fling at the Council over Good Friday. Now his latest trouble is Anzac and Armistice Days. . The Mayor asked what was the object in view? A good many others are asking the same question. His Worship voiced the feeling of all reasonable people when he said that no good came out of such attacks on his brother councillors. They only caused bad feeling and wasted time that should be given to the affairs of the Borough. An unseemly wrangle ove\ Armistice Day or discussion over Anzac Day, the day consecrated to the memory of our fallen heroes, is to be deplored by all right thinking Christian people. Many of us, Sir, have lost brothers and sons and dear friends in the war. We treasure their memory. We do not want these memories to be further darkened and made more sad by the unworthy and degrading, strife that is being stirred up at the Borough Council. Let us in the few days that remain unite as a community in peace and harmony to honour and pay our tribute to the .dear memory of those who are gone but not forgotten.—l am, etc.,

“LEST WE FORGET.”
