PIAKO COUNTY

ORDINARY MEETING The Piako County Council met on Monday. There were present: Crs. F. W. Walters (chairman), F. E. Hughes, W. C. Kennedy, J. Orr, W. R. Lowry, J. McLean, W. F. Stark and E. R. Whitechurch. CORRESPONDENCE Demurrage. —The Railway Department requested payment of account for £39 4/- being for demurrage incurred on 33 waggons of metal at Tatuanui. The clerk, Mr Ray, replied that no account had been received by him.

'Application to lay water pipe.—-The Te Aroha Jockey Club applied for permission to lay a • water main along County road to the grandstand buildings.—Permission granted. Hangawera Road Drainage.—Mr R. A. Browne, Hangawera Road, Morrinsville, wrote expressing his desire to cross Junction Road to main drain to farther side at’ two or three points, and also his willingness to pay cost of same. —Permission granted.

Aylesbury-Okaihopi Landing Road. —The Public Works Department advised that it regretted that no further payments can be made on the above contract, as the work was not carried out in accordance with specifications, therefore the responsibility is upon the Council. —The contract was let by the Ohinemuri County Council. The engineer said he had never passed the job and did not intend to do so. The matter was referred to the Ohinemuri County Council.

Waiorongomai Tramway. The Mines Department wrote expressing its willingness to contribute £29 of the estimated cost —£58—for repairing the legs of the tramway at Waiorongomai. This work was reported on as essential by the Inspector of Mines.

Waitoa Drainage Board. —The engineer to the Waitoa Drainage Board, Mr W. R. Johnson, solicited a donation from the Council .towards the cost of raising and stop-banking about six chains of the lower end of the Whakahoro Road, which work is now complete.—Agreed to donate £5.
