LOST SPNARINE RAMMED IN HEAVY SWELL ; EFFORTS AT SALVAGE LITTLE HOPE FOR THE CREW It is officially estimated that the submarine L 24, which was lost during | manoeuvres, is lying in thirty fathoms of water eleven miles southward of Portland Bill. Little hope is entertained for the crew. Apparently the submarine was rammed by H.M.S. Resolution in a mist during a very heavy swell. A diving party will descend in the morning. A lighter specially adapted for raising submarines is being rushed to the spot to try to salvage the submerged craft. The disaster occurred during a fog after the vessels of the Atlantic fleet had opened a course into the channel at the beginning of their spring cruise. Additional details concerning the loss of submarine L 24 show that the ill-fated boat was engaged in carrying out a dummy attack when she was rammed by a battleship. The submarine lies in 30 fathoms of water, and every effort is being made to ascertain the fate of the crew, which comprises 33 men. Very little hope is entertained that they will be rescued, but experts state that if they were able to close the;, waterproof compartments they may survive for 48 hours. Phone number of Hy.
