ANNUAL REPORT OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The annual meeting of the members of the above was called for Friday evening last, but owing to a lack of interest displayed there was not a sufficient number to form a quorum. We are enabled, however, through the courtesy of the president, to publish a synopsis of the annual report as presented by the executive. ANNUAL REPORT Your executive, in presenting this report, wishes to state that it is very disappointed with the lack of support and interest taken by the business men in their own local affairs, and if the Chamber is to carry on and be of any use to the town much more interest will have to be shown. COLD SWIMMING BATH The Chamber has been' in communication with the Tourist Department with a view to getting the cold swimming bath in the Domain changed into a tepid bath, but this needs further representation. DECEASED MEMBERS The Chamber had lost by death two of its old and most valued m°mbers in the persons of Messrs W. Mclnman and G. F. McGirr. WAIHOU PORTER Strong efforts had been made to retain the porter at Waihou railway station, but all efforts were unavailable. The matter at present is in abeyance. ADVERTISING The Chamber has various schemes under discussion but so far the only one matured is the one advertising the Town in the Thames Valley Booklet. The Government are at present considering the Chamber’s proposal as outlined by Mr A. N. Caudwell to advertise the hot springs in the Domain by means of the automatic stamp cancelling scheme. i TAXI FARES After general discussion the Chamber had secured the Hamilton By-law relating to the taxi fares, etc., and had drawn up a comprehensive outline of charges and submitted them to the Borough Council for their consideration. NEW TRAFFIC BRIDGE Efforts had been made to secure a new traffic bridge, but this matter is awaiting the report of the Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, after his trip to Wellington. THOMPSON’S TRACK This matter has been before the Chamber most of the year, and is also awaiting the Mayor’s report on his Wellington trip.
