FOUND DEAD

SUICIDE UNDER DEPRESSION On Monday Mr Harry Grahame Jackson, a single man about 61 years of age, and for some 30 years a settler and dealer at Bowentown, in the Katikati district, was found dead in his bed. Letters and a.diary left in the room showed that the deceased had committed suicide under great mental depression. In his diary, under date of 18th October, an entry ran: “I have just been served with a summons on the information of a Maori woman, named Mrs Dick, and others, accusing me of a vile act. Much upset, as I have always helped them, but there is no gratitude from Maquis. Fear I cannot face disgiace, but God knows I am innocent.” ■ Two small bottles, one containing prussic acid, the other stiychnine, were found on the table near the bed. —Waihi Telegraph. *
