Mr Dransfield of Te Aroha is at present on a visit to Auckland.

Many people will learn with regret that, owing to failing health, Mr A. C. Bushell, secretary of the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Hamilton, has been ordered 12 months’ respite from business in order to undergo medical treatment.

The death is announced at the age of 78 years of Mr Thomas F. Cheeseman, secretary of the Auckland Institute and Curator to the Museum. The late Mr Cheeseman was a very well-known Auckland figure, and also to the scientific world.

Messrs Mai’gison and W. Wykes were the recipients of tokens of esteem from the' Te Aroha Orphans’ Society Ladies’ Night last Monday evening. The Rev. R. L. Connolly in making the presentations referred to the efficient and much valued services rendered to the Society by Mr Margison as accompanist and by Mr Wykes as secretary. The gift to Mr Margison was a silver teapot, and to Mr Wykes a case of pipes.

Mr J. L. Harris, who during the last two ’or three years has been in the employment of Messrs R. Coulter and Co., left Te Aroha on Monday for Papakura, where he has bought a business. Mr Harris, during his sojourn in Te Aroha made himself very popular by his pleasant and courteous manner. He took a keen interest in sport. As secretary of the Northern Athletic Union he did yeoman service. The success of the Union was largely due to his. enthusiasm and good work. His friends will unite in wishing him every success in his new venture.
