MAORI EDUCATION
PROPOSED TECHNICAL COLLEGE The Rev. J. E. Ward, a Missionary of the Presbyterian Church to the Maoris, occupied the pulpit of the local Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. In the course of an interesting address the mentioned that
good progress was being made in the work among the Maoris in the Urewera or Tuhoe country. Stations had been established at Waiohau, Waimana, Matihi, Ruatahuna, Te Whaiti, and . Maungapohatu. Recently the chiefs of Tuhoe (among them the
prophet Rua‘ had discussed with the Maori Mission Committee the education of their boys. As the outcome of this Rua and others had presented to the church a fine property of 60 acres at Waimana as a site for a Technical
College, where their sons could receive theoretical and practical training in agriculture and farming, with their kindred operations. The church has accepted this gift, and proposes to raise £2OOO for the erection of a building and the purchase of suitable equipment. Mr Ward made an appeal to the congregation to help in the - raising of this money, that the opportunity of doing effective work among the Maoris of Tuhoe should not be lost. .-
