TE AROHA JOCKEY CLUE
INVITATION TO LADY JELLICOE
At a meeting of the committee of the Te Aroha Jockey Club it was decided to invitb her Excellency Viscountess Jeliicoe to make a nomination or nominations for the club’s annual meeting in March next. The committee are of the opinion that the Memorial Cup ra?;e will be of interest to sportsmen throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand, the late Sir William Herries having so long identified himself with the sport of kings." while the cup to be presented to the owner of the winning contestant will be provided for by reason of the handsome bequest made by Sir William to the Jockey Club, whese patron ho was for twenty-one years. If her Excellency is able to accept the club’s invitation, the interest in the race will certainly be much greater to both owners and sportsmen generally than if only Auckland provincial horses are engaged in it. It is therefore to be hoped that both of her Excellency’s horses, Ralston and Gartmore, may develop good handicap form next season, and make the visit to Te Auoha. It is anticipated that leading statesmen who own horses will also honor the event by according nominations.
