The great number of straying stock in tbo Borough of Te Aroha has claimed the attention of the council for somo time. Many efforts have be n made to obtain permanently the fervices of a good poundkeeper, but all in vain. At Wednesday’s meeting of ike Council, Cr Hamilton devised a new method,’ which he thought would meet with success if adopted. He proposed that the council subsidise a poundkeeper at the rate of £2 per week for three months, the matter to bo reviewed again after that time. He also moved that the owner of any stock impounded be legally proceeded against. Or Bruce seconded.

Cr Gordon endorsed the proposal, saying that the council had coped successfully with all other questions but that relative to the poundkeeper. She mentioned ihat unless the straying stock was kept off ike sheets, the Beautif)ing Society did not ieel disposed to carry on its work.
