Long- Distance and Party Lines

The following communicrtiou has been received by Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., firom the Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. G. Cotes) regarding telephone charges : “ In reference to the representations made to me by the deputation introduced by yon on the Bubjedt'bf. telephone.charges : In regard to the charge for long distance connections, the point raised by the deputation has recently been met in a very tangible way by the reduction from 5b to 2s 6d on the charge for each quarter-mile beyond the first mile from the exchange. This will mean a redaction of 10s in the charge for each mile beyond the first. In regard to party lines, these will be subjeot to the same reduction as in the case of long distance excessive connections as mentioned above ; but. they have the additional advantage that the charge for 2s 6d for eacn quarter-mile beyond the firstinile will be shared bdtwe?n the various parties commuted with a line.
