SOLDIERS’ PENSIONS

A MORE LIBERAL. SCALE ADVOCATED.

At the meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council yesterday, a resolution was passed agreeing to support the resolutions forwarded by the Alexandra Borough Council which read as follows: —

(1) That this meeting of residents of Alexandra is of opinion that the Government has not made adequate provision for soldiers and their dependents, and they respectfully urge the Government at an early date to bring down a more liberal scale of pensions to discharged soldiers, and also to make more adequate provision for the dependents of soldiers who have fallen or who are now on active service. (2) That this meeting of residents of Alexandra is of opinion that the time has arrived for the organisation of industry so that the resources of the Dominion may be developed to their fullest capacity and they urge the Government to consider the ad- | visability of introducing a system of 1 national service. (3) That this public meeting held under the auspices of the Alexandra Borough Council invite your Council to urge on the Government the necessity of passing legislation to give effect tot he resolution passed at this meeting.
