OUR TRAIN SERVICE

The restriction of the railway service between Te Aroha and Auckland to three days a week as from Monday, inflicts a good deal of hardship on dairy farmers who use the service for the conveyance of milk and cream to the factories en route. It will also interfere with the attendance of scholars from thiß district to Hamilton High School. Instead of attending school on five days of the week, they will only be able to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and probably not at all. We can appreciate the recognition of this fact by the advocates compelling local students to attend local schools. This disarranging of affairs is calculated to retard their studies. The curtailment of the train services will be detrimental to this district. Building operations have been fairly brisk foi some time, but this will be altered now that timber will not be carried by the railways. Flaxmilling work will also be greatly lessened, while the metal quarries will have difficulty iu getting supplies away to local bodies at a distance. The reduction of passenger trains will greatly reduce the number of visitors to this health resort. It has been suggested that the authorities could have economised the coal supply equally as well had they arranged for ruuniug of one train daily to To Aroha and further stations instead of two trains three timos per woek. Isolating Te Aroha on three days while retaining two services on the other throe days, seems absurd.
