The returning officer notifies the election unopposed of Mr Thomas Stanley, as Mayor of }Te Aroha, and also that eleven candidates have been nominated for the eight vacancies on the Borough Council. At present there are indications that three of the candidates will wtthdraw to avoid an election, butjwe are not aware that any definite decision has been come to in this respect. We know there is a wish that the expense of an election should be avoided, and suggestions are made that candidates might donate a cheque to the patriotic funds.
