MILITARY SPORTS

There was a large attendance of the general public at the racecourse yesterday afternoon to witness the Military Sports of the 6th Hauraki Regiment, prior to breaking camp today. There were large fields in the luuning events, very even competition in the drills, and much amusement in the novelty competitions. Chaplain Captain Dixon officiated as starter, and Sergt -Major Dearaa and Mr Copland (T.M.C.A.) acted as judges iu the field events. The commanding officer Lieut. Colonel Porritt and his officers judged the military eveuts. We give below the results :

The Regimental Band rendered selections throughout the afternoon, and also in sections the drummers and buglers rendered a march, and the other instrumentalists gave a highland mraching selection. A concert party from Te Aroha visited the camp again last night, and entertained the soldiers for a couple of hours, receiving rounds of applause for the various items presented.

The camp struck tents this morning, and the majority of the Territorials proceeded to their homes by the express trains to-day. The chaplains speak very highly of the very great kindnesses they have received at the hands of the Te Aroha residents, and desire to expresi their sincere appreciation of same. The commanding officer and his staff had many kind words to say of the pleasant period spent in the district, and of „the invariable desire of the residents to make' their stay a pleasant and memorable one. Colonel G, Arnold Ward, officer commanding the Auckland district, paid an official visit to the camp on Tuesday, and congratulated the Colonel and his officers and men on the thorough and efficient system of training undertaken
