BOWLING NOTES

By “ Jack ”

Club members will be pleased to welcome back, “ and looking well ” Mr D. Waddell who has been holiday making in the Commonwealth and naturally spending most of his time wooing “ kitty.” He kissed her on several occasions on the Sydney and Melbourne greens striking jack a terrific blow upon the Mossmon Bay arena and encountered a good many dead heads on the Sydney green.

Mr Waddell’s impression is that the players do not take the game as seriously as the Maorilanders, they were most hospitable however and laid themselves out to give the visitors a real warm welcome. It was the usual thing to have a “ snifter ” every five heads played. Enquiries were made as follows : “Is Te Aroha in the South Island ?” “ Is gum-digging its principal industry ?” “ Would the natives molest them if they should visit the Pa ?” " Were there any sand-flies in the locality of Te Aroha !”.

Evidently old Martin Taylor had been spinning yarns while indulging in the snifters. However Mr Waddell dispelled all these erroneous ideas about our Health Resort and promised a right royal welcome should they visit Te Aroha.

The committee have arranged an inter-club match with the Thames for Saturday next and it is Intended to leave by the 10 a.m. train which should arrive at its destination at 12 a.m. thereby giving the members an hour for lunch. Play will begin at 1 p.m., and the return journey will commence at 4 p.m. arriving home at 6 p.m. Members should certainly avail themselves of this outing which in former years has been looked forward to with a great amount of pleasure. A musical committee has been organised to arrange the items for the return journey. E. Hankins has promised to bring his flute, H. Gahagan his mouth-organ and D. McL. Wallace the bag-pipes and the council the drum, provided the right key could* be reached.
