MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting held yesterday at Tirau, there were present Crs. W. J. Anderson (chairman}, J. Pohlen, F. Barnett, I. Scott, J. McCavv, R. Carruth, A. Potts,, H. Lewis (clerk) and E. J. Early (engineer). CORRESPONDENCE GRANTS FOR PUBLIC WORKS The Public Works Department notified that the following amounts had been forwarded to the credit of the Council for Public Works, Putaruru to Waotu Road £IOO, Puketaroa to Cambridge Road £3OO, Brunskill Road £ for £ £SO, Lichfield to Waotu Road £lB9 10s, Pokaiwenua Stream Bridge if 150. VOTES FOR PUBLIC WORKS The .Public Works Department \yrotes;tating that votes for public works in the County where they related to new money voted this year would not be available until satisfactory arrangements had been made for raising the Public Works Loan. SUNNY PARK ESTATE Solicitors for owner of Lot tasked for certificate stating that County moneys had been expended on the main Tauranga Road in’ order that transfer of section could be registered, Cr. Pohlen moved that necessary certificate be supplied. WAITOA SPECIAL DRAINAGE AREA A letter was received from R. A. Forsman thanking the Council for assistance re proposed scheme and stating that a petition was being prepared, and asked that th e Council should make formal application to the Advances Board to ascertain what money would be available. He also asked for County map showing the boundaries to be included.

ENGINEER’S REPORT MATAMATA RIDING Metalling—OwiDg to the difficulty in making arrangements for supply and discharge of metal, tenders have had to be delayed, but might be dealt with during . present month. Work on Gunns and Mangawhero Roads has been completed during the month. The earthwork on the Waharoa-Walton Roads has been com pleted and some of the steep grades sanded. On Scherer’s Road earthwork out to the main swamp was finished in September and during the present month the bridge and filling over the swamp will be completed, giving access to far end of Scherer’s property. More has been been done on the Waharoa-Tau-rangaomoana Road and a small contract let for draining has been completed. Reforming and repair work has been done on Sunny Park Road beyond Mangawhero by Wrayford’s machine gang. The road from the county boundary at Wairere Bridge up to the Hot Springs, and the road from Okauia School will be formed up by Wrayford’s gangTimber for Scherer’s Bridge is now being carted out to the bridge site, and construction will be put in hand immediately. . ‘ Paketere Riding—Hinuera Road Bridge has been constructed, but the approaches will have to be raised, widened, and gravelled before application can be made for. -payment of 'Government Grant Formation of the deviation on the Papanui Road through Dobbs’ pro-'perty-ihas been completed, but a good deal of scooping and widening is still necessary in order to put this road into proper shape. > Clifford’s Deviation at Hamblyn’s crossing has been gravelled, but owing to the inclemency of the weather this deviation was still one of the soft spots on the TirauMatamata Road, On the TirauRotorua Road Mr Milliken offered to give land for a small deviation near Waimakariri in exchange for a waste "corner of road reserve nearer Tirau.
