New Duties in Force
PASSED BY PARLIAMENT At the conclusion of the delivery of the Budget in the House of Representatives resolutions were passed in Committee of Ways and Means, making alterations in duties upon certain goods. These alterations may be summarised as follows: - Duties in Schedule i : On cordials, bitters, spirits, and spirituous mix lure*,'wines, etc, raised f rom 16s to 17s per gallon. Refined mineral oils, kerosene, motor spirit, petrol spirit, etc, 4d per gallon. On gas engines, hot air engines, oil engines, motor car and motor cycle engines, 10 per cent, ad valorem. Motor vehicles for road traffic, n.o.e, including motor-cars and motorcarriages, 10 per cent, ad valorem. Schedule 3 in the Act cf 1913 was repealed, and the following substituted Duties on goods produced iu manufacturing warehouses :—On perfumed spirits, £1 the Jiquid gallon: on toilet preparations which are subject to a duty of 17s the liquid gallon on importation, 13s a gallon; on toilet preparations subject to a duty of 25 per cent on importation, 6s a gallon ; on culinary and flavouring essences, 13s a gallon ; on medicinal preparations— excepting medicated wine or wine mixed with food—containing more than 50 per cent, of proof spirit, gd the pound; on medicinal preparations —excepting medicated wine, or wine mixed with food—containing not more than 50 per cent, of proof spirit, no duty.
