Tennis Championship.
NEW ZEALAND LADIES VICTORIOUS. WIN INTER-STATE MATCH. Sydney, April 24. The tennis tournament was continued in fine weather and a large attendance, including the GovernorGeneral. The play throughout was of a {high standard. The matches between the ladies of New Zealand and New South Wales were keenly contested, and provided excellent contests. The visitors proved too good for their opponents, and although two games are yet unfinished the New Zealanders have practically won the Inter-State match. Results ; —Doubles.—
Misses Powdrell and Nunneley (New Zealand) beat Misses Doyle and Gardiner 4 —6, 6—l,6 —4. Mrs Colquohon and Miss Baker (New South Wales) beat Misses Ward and Wellwood (New Zealand 5-7, 6—2, 16-14; Misses Powdrell and Nunnely (New Zealand) beat Misses Lee and Jones 6—4, 4—6, 6—4.
Misses Grya and Travers (New Zealand) beat Mrs Colquhon and Miss Baker 6—4,6—0. —Singles.— ' Miss Gray (New Zealand) beat Mrs Doys 6—4, 6—3. Miss Travers (New Zealand) beat Miss Gardiner 7—5, 7—5. In the Inter-State gentlemen’s matches singles Victoria sedred 117 aDd New South Wales 110. In the doubles New South Wales beat Victoria by 11 rubbers to 10.
