Drowning Accident.

FATALITY AT SHELLY BEACH Auckland, March 4. A DROWNiNG accident, the third during the past week, took place this afternoon off Shelly Beach, Ponsonby, the victim being a young man named John C. Dawson, son of the Rev. John Dawson, of the Primitive Methodist Church, Wellington’ Dawson went out for a row in the afternoon with a number o e companions, and the boat was put into Shelly Beach at his request so that ho might go in for a swim Not being able to swim very well he got into difficulties. A companion, Mr Arthur Carbine, went to his aid, and the two were struggling in the water for some time. They called out for assistance from persons on the shore, but at first the lookers-on thinking it was only a joke did not respond. Afterwards another man came and a boat was also put off Carbine was got on board the boat, but Dawson disappeared.

The body has not yet been recovered. The deceased was only 20 years of age He and his sister were on a. visit, to Auckland, and were to have left on their return to Wellington to-morrow.
