Sir, —I happened to pick up a Waikato paper the other day, m which I found an advertisement which ran something after the following : H nWING to the slump in prices of fat stock and the tightness of the money market, R. CHILCOTT is making a Big Reduction in his Prices for Cash over the counter : Beef one quality only Mutton the tbe very best. primest Sirloin, 4£d lb Legs. 4£d lb Prime Ribs, 4d lb Loins, 4d lb Chuck Roast, 2|d lb Forequarters 2Ad Top Side. 4d lb All other joints Silver Side, 4d lb at equally low Brisket, 2£d lb prices for cash. Boiling Beef, 2Ad lb.”
Now, Sir, it is not to give Mr Chilcott a free advertisement that I ask you to publish this, but to compare the prices with shops throughout the Piako County. Our butchers are quick enough to put the price up, but remarkably slow in pulling them down.—l am, etc., Cheap Meat [We think the Te Aroha prices compare favourably with the list quoted.— Ed. News.]
